DC Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
Each year, the Mayor hosts a celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the District's citywide observance of the national holiday.
This year the Office of the Secretary of the District of Columbia is proud to partner with Serve DC to present the 2009 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Mayor Fenty has proclaimed January 21 “Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service”* in the District of Columbia, and he asks all residents to celebrate Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into citizen action.
On MLK Day 2008 over 20,000 District volunteers participated in 150 different community service projects. Check back to this site for details concerning the 2009 King Day of Service.
